The Tinnitus Hearing Loss Connection

There is a big tinnitus hearing loss connection, and for a very good reason because both of these medical problems deal with the brain, the ears and the hearing. Doctors and medical experts estimate that most all tinnitus sufferers have some degree of hearing loss. Tinnitus is more than just a ringing in your ears every now and again. In order for it to be designated as a medical condition it must be chronic or constant, debilitating and diagnosed by a doctor. Therefore, if you have the occasional ringing in your ears it is no cause for panic.

Those unlucky enough who suffer from tinnitus have one of two types – pulsatile or nonpulsatile. Pulsatile tinnitus sounds and feels like a throbbing or pulsing in the ears, while nonpulsatile tinnitus does not. Nonpulsatile tinnitus usually manifests as a high pitched ringing, screeching, roaring or buzzing in the ears. Many cases of tinnitus are caused by loud noise. There are many examples of noises that can lead to both hearing loss and tinnitus if the ears are not protected.

Ear protection is highly recommended to prevent hearing damage in places such as rock concerts, factories, shooting ranges and racetracks. Even young people can suffer from hearing damage early and have to deal with tinnitus, so always wear earplugs in loud places and insist your child do the same. Noise related tinnitus can be prevented, which is a good thing to know. Many teenagers love loud music, loud cars, you name it. However it is so important they understand the damage that can be done and how a discreet pair of protective earplugs can save their hearing.

Nontheless, aging related tinnitus, hearing loss and other problems cannot be prevented, but can be helped and life made easier for the sufferer. As we age, there can be degeneration of the nerve endings in the ear, leading to hearing loss and tinnitus. There are tinnitus blockers and hearing aids that can make things much more tolerable for these types of sufferers. Another type of therapy is TRT, which trains you to become so accustomed to the sounds of your tinnitus that it no longer bothers you. No matter what treatment you choose, a trip to the doctor is the first place to start so he or she can rule out any medical conditions that may be causing your tinnitus.
