Understanding Tinnitus Hyperacusis
In order for you to understand what tinnitus hyperacusis is, you should first understand that these are two different disorders linked very closely together. Firstly let's look at the medical condition called hyperacusis. If you have hyperacusis, it means you are extremely sensitive to certain sounds and/or frequencies of sound. Tinnitus, on the other hand, is a ringing in the ears that can be quite uncomfortable to some people, especially those who already suffer from hyperacusis. There are many different causes of both tinnitus and hyperacusis, which is why a medical evaluation should be your first step on the road to recovery.

Masking therapy is great for anyone who wants a drug-free approach that they can turn on and off as needed.
Anyone suffering with tinnitus hyperacusis will know it is a very distressing problem , but as you can see there are ways to combat the problem. In addition to masking therapy as described above, there are other types of therapy such as Tinnitus Retraining Therapy, which helps patients become used to the sounds of tinnitus so that they are no longer bothered by them. Your hearing specialist or doctor can go over these and other treatment options for your particular case, based on your specific details. Everyone is different, so what works like a charm for one patient may not work for another.
